About headerAbout

Amy Genser plays with paper, paint, and glue to explore her fascination and obsession with texture, pattern, color. Evocative of natural forms and organic processes, her work is both irregular and ordered. She construct her pieces by layering, cutting, rolling, and combining paper. Sometimes she adds metal and wood.

The sources of her work are textures, patterns, and grids. She looks for forms that can be repeated to create a pattern when they are joined. Her work tries to capture the essence of an experience or an image she has seen. She often look to the natural world for inspiration. She fascinated by the flow of water, the organization of beehives, and the organic irregularity of plants, flowers, rock formations, barnacles, moss, and seaweed, and aerial views of our landscape.

It was during a papermaking class in graduate school for Graphic Design at the Rhode Island School of Design, that Amy began her love affair with paper. Amy lives in West Hartford with her husband and three sons.
